You are free to use the editor of your choice. Connect will use the PATH environment variable to discover a version of R if one is not otherwise found. RStudio Connect supports two ways of discovering R versions: scanning well-known locations and through direct configuration. The recommended approach to installing R on RStudio Connect is documented here. Optionally, there is a number of other text editors, which can be associated with R, e.g. Changing any of the configuration items discussed in this chapter requires a restart of RStudio Connect. Now you should have the latest versions of R and RStudio on your computer.

Then, quit the RStudio program, go to the RStudio website, and download and install the latest version. The workaround is to open the original R drawing panel - just type windows () into the console, and new active window will open (you can move it around the screen, or right-click on it by mouse and select “Stay on top” to keep it as the top window always visible on your screen). RStudio is a convenient software, which combines R program with text editor and graphical user interface (and offers much more, like organization of scripts and outputs into a projects within single folder, and for advanced users also convenient building of packages, document markup etc.). Use the package management system to install MiKTeX. If you already have RStudio installed in your computer, please check whether you have the latest version and update if you don't (in RStudio menu, go to Help > Check for Updates). The installation source depends on the Linux distribution version. It is a good idea to be on the current major version.
